                                       has been with the Practice since 1991 and continues to enjoy the challenge and complexity of Rural Practice.

Traralgon Medical Centre  (TMC) is situated in the CBD of Traralgon, a Rural Centre (part of Latrobe City), population of about 25,000 people, 165 kms east of Melbourne.
The Practice began serving the people of Traralgon and surrounding districts 38+ years ago, and the current Principal has been with the Practice for twenty + years.


Medical staffing is currently 3 full-timers/ 2 part-timers. 
TMC is accredited, through the Principal, as a Training Practice for FMP Registrars since 1994.
Monash rural medicine school Year C students rotate through the practice Non-medical support staff includes a Practice Manager and several part-time secretary/receptionists. 
We are hoping to engage a Practice Nurse in the near future.
Billing is predominantly private, with concessionary rates for pensioners and Health-care cardholders.
The income of the out-going practitioner is in the 90th centile for GP’s nationally.

Our purpose built Practice premises consist of a large waiting area, office/filing space, 4-bay
emergency/treatment room, staff room, and 6 consulting rooms.  We are fully computerised     
for call/recall, appointments, scripts, educational applications, E-mail, Internet –
keeping of notes on the computer is optional. The Practice is fully accredited
with AGPAL. Parking is outside the rear entrance, and X-ray and pathology services
are 50m from the front. Latrobe Regional Hospital, a Public teaching hospital with
an attached Centre for Rural Health, and Maryvale Private Hospital are 10 and
15 minutes west respectively, with other hospitals in Sale (50km east) and
Warrigal (60km west). Admitting rights to Maryvale can be arranged if required.


We practice high-quality traditional Family Medicine on a broad front, with a balance of acute and chronic care. 
Home /nursing home visits are provided if needed.
The out of hour's roster is shared with two local single-handers, currently 1-5 (when fully staffed). 
A number of complementary techniques (Myo-fascial Medicine, Acupuncture, Herbal/Nutritional Medicine) are integrated,
where appropriate, into an evidence based diagnostic and treatment model. Shared Antenatal Care,
Home Palliative Care and Sports Medicine are of special interest. 
Management of Depression and Chronic pain is taught to Registrars as a Core Skill.

The Centre for Rural Health, based locally at Latrobe Regional Hospital offers excellent learning opportunities for Continuing Professional Development.
